Runners may join the Cross Country team until September 1, 2010.  Cuts will be made September 15, 2010.

The main criteria is being able to run the whole distance of a 3.1 mile (5k) race WITHOUT walking.   Runners are put into training groups based upon their fitness and capabilities.  Women should be able to break 36 minutes and men 32 minutes by September 15, 2010.  After 2-3 weeks of training, runners should not need to walk to perform entry level training of 3-4 miles per day most days, and 5-6 miles on a weekly longer run.

Inclement Weather Policy

Posted on: Friday, August 29, 2008

We race as we train! So...we must train as we race. Training in foul weather is important training.  We have meets in rain and snow.

Bring a towel after the run.  Stuff you shoes with newspapers afterwards when you get home.

A good rule of thumb is, if schools were not canceled due to weather, we will have practice. Yes, we can run in the rain and snow!  If there is extreme foul weather forecasted and practice is schedule to be on the farm, we may move it to the school and adjust accordingly.

Rules for lightening do apply at all times!  We may not practice outside for 30 minutes after hearing thunder or seeing lightning. We will be always safe.

Winning With Asthma

Posted on: Thursday, May 21, 2009

The "Winning With Asthma" program in now active here in Maryland as a valuable resource to educate everyone about asthma, how it affects a student-athlete's ability to compete, and how they can help student-athletes manage their symptoms while playing their best.

Visit www.winningwithasthma.org and sign in.  Participants watch a 30-minute educational video and complete an online survey about what they learned.  Upon completion, the individual will receive a certificate, the "Coach's Clipboard" outlining what should be done during an asthma attack, and other educational materials via mail.  This training and materials are FREE of charge!
